Wednesday, February 6th, 2002 5pm - 6:30pm Public Policy Building Room 5391, UCLA Title: The internet and identity politics in Indonesia: New Spaces for Democracy? Join us for a seminar led by Merlyna Lim, PhD candidate, University of Twente, Netherlands. Born and raised in Bandung, Indonesia and trained as an architect at the Bandung Institute of Technology, Ms. Lim is currently researching issues of the socio-political impacts of the internet. She examines its potential as a tool for democratic social movements in Indonesia. She is the recipient of a fellowship from the Royal Dutch Academy of Science working at the Center for Science, Technology, and Society Studies. The seminar poses the question of the role of the internet and prospects for democracy in Indonesia's post-Suharto era.
