Did I say somewhere that nobody ever hacked any servers in a data center?   No, 
I did not.   I said that one of the hacks that was used, in a context where 
they didn't hack servers in a data center, was to install taps on the networks 
of service providers.

This is a real thing that happened, and securing those links is of real 
benefit.   By itself it doesn't solve the whole problem, but if you don't 
secure the messages in transit, then securing them on the server doesn't either.
