The errors that lead to the Apache crashing out and not willing to graceful restart are: "Could not pass request to proper child, request will not be honoured." For SSL, there is no error. As far as Apache is concerned, it is running fine. But the browser throws a *"ssl_error_rx_record_too_long" * The OS is debian lenny and the apache modules enabled are, alias.conf authz_user.load expires.load php5.conf alias.load headers.load php5.load auth_basic.load deflate.conf mime.conf rewrite.load authn_file.load deflate.load mime.load setenvif.conf authz_default.load dir.conf mod-evasive.load setenvif.load authz_groupfile.load dir.load negotiation.conf ssl.conf authz_host.load env.load negotiation.load ssl.load I tried it with and without evasive - but to no effect.
