Lou, I think you are right. It looks to be from the Cucujoidea family for sure. It would make sense, since we do have moldy logs sitting in water. Another question – on the same floor of the museum, we have exposed textiles and silks. Is there a danger that these guys could migrate to those artworks and do damage, or are they guaranteed to stay in the pond? Should we be very concerned about artwork throughout the museum?
Does anyone have any recommendations of what to do now that we know what they are? Put out lures (if there are any that would work for them)? Thank you! These beetles were found on raw wooden logs/wooden discs that we have in our gallery. The logs sit in a pool of water, but we had drained the water out for cleaning.
