Alan,

I’ll Chime in and say that we found one in our collection in the nymph stage
with the very cool common name of Masked Hunter Assassin Bug. Why it’s called
this is also pretty nifty and worth looking up for those interested. It
appeared to be praying on emerging furniture beetles so in that case it was an
ally! I defer to our more schooled colleagues to confirm or deny the
possibility of this.

Alan,
That is a hemipteran. It seems quite consistent with an assassin bug, such as
Narvesus carolinensis. The image appears a bit distorted (stretched), and some
features are difficult to view. But, it is not a risk to the collection or
personnel.

Subject: [pestlist] ID help

Hello Pestlisters,

I found this on a remote shelf in our stacks. Any idea if it's harmful to our
collection? We had some facilities workers working in that spot last week, so
it's entirely possible this came in with them. It was dead, so who knows
really how long it was there.
