Hi Adie, Thanks very much for your advice. We actually have the same sort of materials in all of our stores and across each of the stores; almost all of our collections are paper/parchment based, a mix of boxed items, unboxed volumes and rolled items. Sadly all rather munchable! We do see variation in pest numbers in each store but I think this is mostly down to variation in the environment within the stores - they were built at different times with different a/c units, in different locations etc. Perhaps rather than trying to get a consistent distribution I just need to factor in a calculation for pests per metre squared in my spreadsheet.
Thanks very much Lindsey From: 'Adrian Doyle' via MuseumPests <[email protected]> Sent: 21 July 2020 14:22 To: [email protected] Subject: [PestList] RE: Advice on blunder traps/m2 Hi Lindsey In my experience, it would be a good idea to undertake a collections risk survey or ‘munchability index’ (as I call it) audit of each location to identify the collections risk to help prioritise where you need to concentrate The number of monitors can be either a set pattern or distribution for the initial experiment or as I do at the BM , it is based on the risk For example, in an inorganic stone store, there are less monitors than in a costume store and the discussion as to whether there is a significant problem is based on collections risk rather than the numbers In the British Museum, CAT A stores (highly munchable) have: Telemetric Environmental monitoring Minimum of quarterly pest monitoring At least 1 webbing clothes moth pheromone monitor At least 2 floor (blunder) monitors If there is a need to add more IPM monitors, that is based on capture numbers Hope this starts a discussion adie Currently Working From Home Mr Adrian (Adie) Doyle Integrated Pest Management Manager British Museum Property & Facilities Management Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG Mobile 07813 363292 Email: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> The British Museum Great Russell Street, London WC1B 3DG britishmuseum.org<https://gbr01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.britishmuseum.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7a9ff9c7e2464696ab3908d7629aa629%7Ca7f588e4c7964ce2b525daac11557e97%7C0%7C0%7C637086288666858073&sdata=FVkPCmec5C%2BmguWcS52ubg0CqaXxxfIrpeEoFIPj4Z0%3D&reserved=0> The security classification for this message is OFFICIAL Please see our privacy policy<https://gbr01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.britishmuseum.org%2Fabout_this_site%2Fterms_of_use%2Fprivacy_policy.aspx&data=02%7C01%7C%7C7a9ff9c7e2464696ab3908d7629aa629%7Ca7f588e4c7964ce2b525daac11557e97%7C0%7C0%7C637086288666858073&sdata=yo3WGYN18NLhIEgWwe1fgs0yqoBQJQi3IcLhtPreutc%3D&reserved=0> for more details about how we use your personal data and about your rights or contact the Museum’s Data Protection Officer at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>, telephone 020 323 8000 From: 'Lindsey Gibson' via MuseumPests <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Sent: 21 July 2020 14:06 To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Subject: [PestList] Advice on blunder traps/m2 Good afternoon, I am currently reviewing IPM procedures in my organisation and hoping for a bit of advice on placement of blunder traps. At present the number of traps in each of our archive strongrooms is not consistent. This is in part due to accessibility of each space. I would like to increase/reduce trap numbers (and regularity of trap placement where possible to have a more accurate comparison of pest numbers in the different spaces. I have not been able to find any guidance on an optimal number of traps/m2. Can anyone direct me to guidance on this/advise me?
