Hello Stephan,

It's quite interesting that this seems to be a German-spoken classification.
So thank you for this insight.

We will see if there will be some more hints on literature from other
countries.

All the best,

Betreff: Re: [PestList] Wood Borer beetle in Cedar

Hello Antje,

a good and complex question.
I will try to answer you as german expert and member of the „Ausbildungsbeirat
für Holzschutz“

I know these 3 books and writers and their relationships. Dietger Großer is a
longtime member of the German expert group called „Ausbildungsbeirat für
Holzschutz“ (see book). So i think, Großer influenced his earlier
classification from his book to others.

My evaluation is, that this classification just exist in the german spoken
countries and based on some writers depending wood boring beetles, described in
the related books.
Maybe other pestlist-members know international literature or technical books
with these kind of classification?

As I know from my german collegues and journals (e.g. Schützen&Erhalten), the
classification between „dry wood insects“ and „damp wood insects“ was contrary
discussed between some experts. That means, it could be difficult to divide all
wood boring beetles into three classes by moisture content. For me, it is more
a support for the education than a scientific basis.

Best, Stephan
