Just common ground beetles. Around here they seem to be mostly nocturnal and
early morning runners. Occasional invaders not collection pests. We really see
them after lawn treatments and excess precipitation. They are really good at
getting inside even the best sealed buildings. Check door sweeps and maybe add
an extra trap or two in areas where they present. JTV

It appears to be a ground beetle (Carabidae). An occasional but accidental
invader.

Subject: [PestList] Possible Beetle ID?
Does anyone have an idea about what the large black insect might be? I haven't
managed to match it to any of the reference images. It's about 12 mm long, not
counting appendages. I find one every two weeks in the traps by the exterior
doors, so I think they're coming in from outside. We're in western Washington
(the rainy part), right on Puget Sound.
Thanks for your help,
