Hi Janie, We had the same problem searching for a wasp nest, it worked to find openings in the roof and beams but no wasps. You could only see a wasp on the outside wall when we were way to close for comfort (2 or 3 cm away). But as Janie stated it might have been an equipment problem.

I don't know if I just didn't have enough insects producing heat or if the thermal camera I have was just not attuned to that kind of use, but it didn't seem to see anything beyond surface temperatures. I've seen it done in articles and presentations, though, so maybe it's an equipment issue?
