Hmm, good point, Gretchen – I had figured that if that were the case it would 
be obvious looking – as in, they’d be crawling out of the carcass (as I’ve seen 
in the past) – and the person wouldn’t have forwarded the message to me. I will

Snake looking thing is a lizard in the Scincidae family. We call them skinks

Hello again!

More larvae to ID. This is a photo I received from someone asking for help, so 
I can’t get a closer image. To me, they look like fly larvae, but I don’t think 
they’re feasting on the snake(?) on the trap. Should staff be on the lookout 
for another dead animal? Am I misidentifying a wood-boring pest?

This trap is from an open air wooden structure on Cumberland Island (off the 
coast of Georgia). It does not house objects.

Bonus points if you can ID the snake.
