Hi Rachel,
I am also in the Bay Area/Northern CA, and encountered these moths very
frequently at a local museum (East Bay). We also tentatively identified
them as *Oinophila v-flava*/yellow v moths, and regarded them as outdoor
moths that didn't pose too big a collection threat. We did keep an eye on
them, and never witnessed any problems with proteinaceous material!
