Lisa -

WCM’s can easily withstand -20 outdoors. They infest birds nests, especially pigeon nests and dead birds in Nature.

I’ve dealt with this kind of infestation in the past where a DuPont carriage collection was infested with WCM ‘s.

Dear Group – A few months ago, I came seeking advice on possible pest issues inside artwork that happens to be a vehicle.  I was vague as the work was a promised gift at the time.  Well, I can now say that Liza Lou’s Trailer an entire Spartan Mansion Trailer with a completely glass beaded interior is now officially in the museum’s collection.

The work was outside at previous owner’s residence for 20 years and there were definite signs of past moth activity.

The upshot of the pest issue – no one wanted to fumigate (including the artist) and monitoring for pests with sticky traps and pheromone traps was tricky pre-possession of the work.  We know have it and rather than bring it inside immediately, we have it secured outdoors and are monitoring both for pests and the environment.  I’m hoping the continued cold will kill anything that might be inside.  Our hygrothermograph registered 20 degrees F for at least 5 days in a row last week.

Thanks for all who helped both on and off line.  Happy New Year!
