Thank you! We do have other varieties of fungus beetle, I just hadn't seen this
one before. Unfortunately I am well aware of some moisture problems in the
building so that does make sense. Problems we don't have much control over at
the moment other than monitoring and keeping sensitive stuff away from those
areas. Still, glad they aren't a direct risk.

Much appreciated,
Katy

In addition, they can be seen as an indicator of moisture (leading to
fungal/mold) issues. As Tony says, just a few are not too much of a concern,
many indicate a more serious issue, possibly water leak of some kind.

Hi Katy

This is not a Cigarette Beetle (Lasioderma). I think it more likely to be one
of the Cryptophagidae or Mycetophagidae (sometimes called the Minute Fungus
Beetles). They often crop up when newly plastered walls develop a coat of
fungal mycelia as they dry. So recent building work might be the source.
Alternatively they can be found in birds' nests, on dung, rotting wood, fungi,
compost, etc. If you only find the two, regard them as accidental visitors. If
lots more turn up, it could indicate a building problem.

Hello wise pest folk,

Doing our IPM rounds and came across these beetles. Two of them in the same
trap. The closest ID I can find is a cigarette beetle. Can anyone confirm? If
not cigarette beetle, then what? I’ve taken multiple photos since the depth of
field on our imitation dino-lite is pretty terrible. Note the red marks are mm
on a fabric tape measure so these are < 2 mm long.

Thank you for any ID help.
