Hi Angela, I usually recommend materials that can be used for nesting – such as yarn – to bait traps with non-food items. Anything that can be secured to the trigger theoretically should work. This is not as attractive as food, of course. You can also try other types of food, that might not attract insect pests. For example – they really like chocolate! Hershey kisses work nicely on traps that have a hole in the trigger. Or you can melt a bit of chocolate (cheap chocolate – don’t waste the good stuff) on the trigger. That way they have to get right on the trigger to get the food. Also, do re-use your traps. The more they smell like mice, even dead mice, the less skittish they are. Just a thought.
Good luck. Do not click links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe. Hello all, Folks working in my building have recently noticed some mice near the front exterior doors, so I would like to put out some additional snap traps around the building. Inside my art storage area I don’t like to use food based bait like peanut butter because we ended up having trouble with spider beetles feeding off it, so I have used things like cotton and yarn nesting materials as bait with fair results, but I don’t have a big problem with mice actually inside the storage areas. I was wondering if anyone on the list has some other ideas for things I could use for baiting the traps that wouldn’t create a food source for the six-legged kind of pests. Thanks in advance!
