Hi Joel, We do not have an external freezer - but have rented freezer trucks before when in a pinch.
Consider heat treatment with controlled RH. Heat can be incredibly effective - and it doesn't need to be very hot (50 degrees Celsius or so) and the dimensional changes can be less than if an object was frozen. (eg going from 25 degrees C to 50 degrees C instead of 25 degrees C to -20 degrees C). Obviously depends on the material. -Erika Erika Range (She/her | elle) Assistant Conservator / Restauratrice adjointe Conservation and Collection Services / Les services de la conservation et de la collection Canada Aviation and Space Museum / Musée de L'aviation e de l'espace du Canada Ottawa, Ontario Tel: (613)-324-2517 Email: [email protected] IngeniumCanada.org From: "Voron, Joel" <[email protected]> To: "Museumpests" <[email protected]> Date: 2023/07/13 10:41 AM Subject: [PestList] Walk in Freezer Question Sent by: [email protected] Does anyone have a walk-in freezer for cold treatments that is freestanding outside? We do not have interior space for one. I am thinking a shade pavilion overhead to cut down on blazing sun on a concrete pad with security fencing and cameras. Cutting it off to wait for acclimatization of the objects. Is this a terrible idea or possibly doable? Joel Voron Colonial Williamsburg Foundation Conservation Dept.
