Anna, it sounds like you are doing all of the right things. Put out fresh sticky traps and see what is actually there- both outside cabinets and inside them. I would also check along the wall you mention to see if there are any nests or holes. Get some fresh data to go to the next steps. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

But the traps have been out for over a year. I'm new to the collection and I'm just catching up. The strips were all outside the cabinets at the base, at the end of a row. There was some pattern that two of the traps with dermestids were against the same wall, but they were stacks apart from each other. There was also some evidence of "snacking" on dead spiders on other traps. Again, I don't know how recent all this activity is and I will continue to monitor the traps closely for activity. I also set pest strips inside the cabinets where the demestids were found just to see if there is any activity inside. Thank you for your response! Hello all, I recently checked and replaced the pest strips throughout my collection which houses birds and mammals skins and skeletons. On four out of 40 of my pest strips I found dermestid larvae (1-3) and three adults- one on a seperate strip on its own and the other 2 were on a strip with larvae. The adults were two different species- Dermestes lardarius and Anthrenus verbasci. We do not use any napthalene in the collection and I have checked inside the cabinets for any evidence of infestation or snacking and found nothing. There were also many many spiders on the strips as well. I increased the number of pest strips and put some insdie the cabinets close to the guilty ones. Will you advise if there is any aditional action you think I should take to protect the colection? It's not a small collection- we have 58 basic museum cabinets and 20 tall, two door cases.
