I would ask maintenance or appliance repair company to vacuum dust out on the compressor coils. Could be reduced air flow from dust reducing performance. Also check door seals to make sure you don’t have a gasket leak. IR camera would be great for that. JTV

There is a large chest freezer in my museum’s off-site storage facility that only seems to reach -10F/-23C. (There’s evidence that it used to go lower, but it’s pretty old.) I know that the standard is supposed to be -20F/-29C for freezing insects before they can develop “antifreeze”, but is what we have likely good enough to deal with e.g. potential dermestid larvae on textiles? Or this a situation where bagging and freezing is probably not doing any good and we just need to replace the freezer? Thank you!
