Hi Amy,
Pheromone traps attract only males. Also remember that both style of traps
(pheromone or plain sticky traps) are meant as monitors. To get rid of the
infestation you will need to figure out where the infestation is, where it is
centered and mitigate from there. Mitigation will include a deep cleaning and
ongoing monitoring
Good luck.

Subject: AW: [PestList] drugstore beetles, pheromone traps

Hi Amy,

Pheromones in sticky traps could attract male beetles, and there are different
qualities of pheromones. The traps from InsectLimited are coated with a
Japanese drugstore beetle pheromone, which, according to my colleague Pascal
Querner from Austria, is supposed to be good.

If you only use simple sticky traps, the probability of catching beetles
running around is lower. This depends greatly on the infestation (few or many
beetles).

If you place the sticky traps on the windowsill, you will catch the beetles
that like to run or fly toward the light. You get the same effect when you use
UV traps, which are also very good for catching and detecting drugstore beetles
in dark rooms.

Best, Stephan

Betreff: [PestList] drugstore beetles, pheromone traps

Hello, all -

We uncovered an infestation of drugstore beetles in a storage closet at our
public library. Does anyone have experience using pheromone traps (e.g.,
https://www.insectslimited.com/store/p/hiresis-drugstore-beetle-kit<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fwww.insectslimited.com%2fstore%2fp%2fhiresis-drugstore-beetle-kit&c=E,1,hfiNLNeQkgkyxTverCrJBeE1g4YIgVMlbcYTeK8K-sbtav03UQbz5hnGYyn2q8uWAM3Zd10YON1DfxI__tduhbH_-DubmPOh8HUYO-dXe2iuR6tY3udh8b7I&typo=1>)
to monitor? Is there an advantage of using such traps over plain sticky traps?
The price-tag for the pheromone trap is not small, and we were given sticky
traps by the Vermont State Entomologist at no charge....

Thank you!
