I do not. I’m not usually the one that takes care of the traps but I’m checking
to see if I can get a picture.
I’m not sure what book lice usually eat so I’m not sure how much of a problem
this is. I read somewhere that they don’t actually eat paper much. Not sure if
that’s true though.
But I’ll send a picture when I get one.

Hi Karina,

Do you know what species of booklice you have? There are many species but only
a few are pests. I'm not an expert on booklice, but it's quite possible that
some of the other species thrive at lower humidities.

People that have more knowledge than me will be able to give more information.

Best wishes

Jane

You don't often get email from

Hello,
My institution, located in Tempe, Arizona, houses archaeological artifacts,
ancestors (i.e. human remains), ethnographic collections, and archives. We are
having an increasing number of book lice in our collections of artifacts,
ancestors, and ethnographic items. There are some in the archives, but not as
prevalent as the artifact collections.
This is strange because the number of book lice seems to be inversely
correlated to relative humidity. Our RH fluctuates some but during the uptick
in book lice (mostly October-May for the last two years), our RH has been
mostly within or below the 30-40% range.
Any ideas why that would be? And more importantly, what treatments can be
safely administered? Freezing all of our collections is just simply not
possible.
Thank you!!
