Yes, the mites look like the predatory mite Stratiolaelaps scimitus, better
known as Hypoaspis which is commonly used as a biocontrol of fungus gnats in
greenhouses.

Henry

Subject: Re: [PestList] Help identifying these 4 insects

Hi Talya
They are mites, and I think they are in the Parasitiformes. It is likely that
they were hitching a lift on the fly (a Black Fungus Gnat - family Sciaridae).
Many mites make use of insects for dispersal. Larvae of Sciaridae feed on plant
roots or decaying vegetation, so I would think the source of the fly (and the
mites) would be a potted plant or a pile of compost. In any case the mites will
not bother your collections - the adults are usually predatory on other mites
and springtails. Incidentally your spider is Scytodes, the Spitting Spider, a
remarkable hunter with a fascinating method of capturing its prey - well worth
reading up about it!
Regards
Tony

Hello all,

Can anyone help me identify the 4 circled insects? Bed bugs? Spider mites?

Thanks!
