I'm am an entomologist and have been a consultant to the museum community dealing with such problems for over 35 years. What you really need is a comprehensive inspection visit and a game plan for not only dealing with existing CMCM problems, but preventing future uprisings. My website is www.museumpestcontrol.com. Ask around in the museum community and conservation world and you'll soon realize an IPPM (Integrated Preventive Pest Management) plan is what you need for the Mayborn Museum Complex. It won't be cheap, but it will put you on the right track for a comprehensive IPPM plan, which can primarily be implemented in-house for a small cost, usually without the use of pesticides. Case-making Clothes Moths are one of the most difficult problems to solve for any museum. I would relish the opportunity to help you with your situation, for I have tackled these types of problems on numerous occasions. Hope to hear from you soon.

I don’t think it would, because we’re dealing with huge spaces and many nooks and crannies. I think everything small enough to locally heat-treat, we have frozen. But keep the suggestions coming.

Would a heat treatment be useful in this area. I use this for bed bugs.

Subject: Case-making Clothes Moth Problem
I am writing to ask if anyone knows of some possible methods of control for a Case-Making Clothes Moth infestation throughout a permanent exhibit space. We have been battling a moderate infestation for many months now, but cannot find a way to completely eradicate the bugs. Short of “bug-bombing” the whole building (which we don’t want to do for a variety of reasons, and which may not even solve the problem), we are not sure what the best methods are. We have tried freezing animal mounts, CO2 chamber, and spraying around non-catalogued objects, but if anyone has an idea or variation of those methods, please let me know.
Thanks for your time,
