Wrapping also allows you to use appropriate treatments: eg anoxia, co2, poisons. AND, wrapping can be useful when freezing objects to prevent drying in the freezer and condensation upon removal. BUT, don't forget that you are creating a microclimate, and a barrier will also trap moisture (and off gassed pollutants, too), so be aware of this, especially if you are looking at long term isolation. Large temperature fluctuations and unfortunate placement of barriers can lead to other (nasty) problems like mold. Be sure to monitor.
