We recommend the cheapest vinyl tile you can get, and in light colors.  Cheaper 
tile is more brittle because they use less plasticizer, which is a good thing, 
and the calcium in the light colors is an acid buffer.  Also, light colors 
allow you to see dirt, debris, or infestation.  You don't want plywood, even 
marine plywood that off-gasses less than the usual kinds.  The rough surface 
catches dirt and bugs.

A lot of people have dealt with this problem, but it's something that students 
should understand, so the pros and cons of different ones are important.  
Obviously the choices are different for storage, galleries, corridors, etc.
