Their ability to damage collections is debatable - some research shows that the excretions from these creatures can stain textiles. Because of their relatively robust size, a more likely scenario is that they will overwinter indoors, expire before spring and become a food source for Dermestids.
We remove them as needed with vacuum cleaners. If you vacuum them up alive, plan on replacing the bag immediately - the reason for this will quickly become evident.
