One of my favourite systems is to use a "train" or series of bags: each bag is connected by hose to the next bag, and each bag holds a file box of books. The first bag is connected to a nitrogen generator, the last bag has a vent to expel nitrogen. Infested books can be examined and then placed into a treatment bag, and the bag can be added to the end of the "train". After a suitable period of time, treated bags can be removed without stopping the system or disturbing other bags, so the process is on going. You may recycle the treatment bags, or leave the books sealed until the entire job is done. contact me off list for more info js Jerry Shiner Keepsafe Microclimate Systems www.keepsafe.ca [email protected] +1 800 683-4696 Providing a suite of services and environmental control solutions for museums and archives, including control of humidity, oxygen and temperature. > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On > Behalf Of Armando Mendez > Sent: March-20-13 12:40 PM > To: <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [pestlist] library move > > > This is a message from the Museumpests List. > To post to this list send it as an email to > [email protected] To unsubscribe please look at the > footer of this email. > ----------------------------------------------------------- > There are concerns of anoxia affecting red pigments, I > wouldn't use it for red leather bounded books. > > In our Library we use a schedule of thorough visual > inspection and freezing only those items we are concerned about. > > Sealing your items in appropriate plastic bags and allowing > to come to room temperature inside the bag after the > treatment should avoid damage by moisture/condensation. > > Best > > Armando Mendez > Library and Archives Special Collections Assistant > IPM Co-ordinator > Natural History Museum > Cromwell Road<x-apple-data-detectors://0/0> > SW7 5BD<x-apple-data-detectors://0/0> > London<x-apple-data-detectors://0/0> > 020 794 25688<tel:020%20794%2025688> > www.nhm.ac.uk<http://www.nhm.ac.uk/> > > > > On 20 Mar 2013, at 18:28, "Stephan Biebl" > <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: > > This is a message from the Museumpests List. > To post to this list send it as an email to > [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> > To unsubscribe please look at the footer of this email. > ----------------------------------------------------------- > For historic books with leather or writings with natural > colors its better with freezing or anoxia (nitrogen).
