They look like American cockroach nymphs to me. From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2014 10:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [pestlist] Pest query and freezing a house
Firstly, does anyone know what the slightly pear shaped couple of insects are at the bottom of the photo. We have a number of them over several pest traps. I have recently taken a job at a small museum system where I have been volunteering for the past nine months. About six months ago I discovered an enormous carpet beetle infestation in one of the historic houses, stretching across at least four rooms at that point. I suspect it had been going on for a couple of years before I discovered it. The museum system has no money, no freezer, no plastic etc and so nothing has happened about it so far, and it has definitely spread in that time. I would not normally consider this, but there is no humidity control in the building, the windows and doors are poorly fitted and only two of the heaters currently work in the building so, having read an article in SIC (Volume 39, Issue Supplement-1) we were giving some thought to freezing the entire building one day over the winter, as it would be free. Has anyone tried this with a historic house? The catch is that we live in Texas and although we do get the odd day below freezing they are few and far between, so it will be very weather dependent and we're unlikely to be able to manage to get it below freezing for much more than 36 hours at best. Thank you Zoe Nakashian
