Jessica,
You are already on this list so you have one good resource already. http://museumpests.net/ Is a great resource as well. They have a downloadable set of procedures for Control of Food and Live Plants that may be helpful. http://museumpests.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/foodplants.pdf You should definitely start a log of all pest sightings. Enlist the help of other staff members especially the cleaning staff. Create a simple form for them to fill out any time the find a pest. This will help you identify the pests, where they are coming from, what they are coming in for and hopefully help your case to make improvements to your policies. At Museum Study we teach two 4 week courses on pest management, Introduction to Integrated Pest Management and Integrated Pest Management: The Plan & Implementation.

Hi everyone,

I just started as director/curator for the Southern Utah Museum of Art, which is located on the campus of Southern Utah University. When I arrived last week, I was alarmed to see potted plants not only in offices but also in a gallery! Today, I spotted an insect. Can you help me identify it? Image attached.

Also, if you have policies to help your museums avoid pests, would you be willing to share them with me? I need to implement those best practices here, but I'm not sure where to start. Any resources you might have would be appreciated!

Sincerely,

Jessica Farling
