Andy,

Thanks for that. I did manage to find those for Firefox. I still can't find those for Konqueror :-(

While I have your attention, I am struggling to get my Belkin Wi-fi card working with my SuSE 10.1 installation.

I have a belkin F5D7001uk wireless 125G high speed card with a Broadcom chipset (BCM4318). I have found a Linux driver for it on their website. I have read the following instructions but fail at Item 2 because I don't know where the 'RPM Path' is. I don't know where to CD to.

Can you assist? See below text.

Installing Source RPM Package
=============================

The following are general guidelines for installing the driver.

1. Install the source RPM package:

  rpm -ivh tg3-<version>.src.rpm

2. CD to the RPM path and build the binary driver for your kernel:

  cd /usr/src/{redhat,OpenLinux,turbo,packages,rpm ..}

  rpm -bb SPECS/tg3.spec

or

rpmbuild -bb SPECS/tg3.spec (for RPM version 4.x.x)

Note that the RPM path is different for different Linux distributions.

3. Install the newly built package (driver and man page):

  rpm -ivh RPMS/<arch>/tg3-<version>.<arch>.rpm

<arch> is the architecture of the machine, e.g. i386:

  rpm -ivh RPMS/i386/tg3-<version>.i386.rpm

Note that the --force option may be needed on some Linux distributions
if conflicts are reported.

The driver will be installed in the following path:

2.4.x kernels:

   /lib/modules/<kernel_version>/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.o

2.6.x kernels:

   /lib/modules/<kernel_version>/kernel/drivers/net/tg3.ko

4. Load the driver:

  insmod tg3.o
or
  insmod tg3.ko (on 2.6.x kernels)
or
  modprobe tg3

There are times when we owe it to ourselves and to the ones around us to share what we know and feel. And there are times when we simply have nothing to offer, and best serve everyone by saying nothing. Perhaps the wisdom comes in being able to recognize the difference.
Peace,
Eron

Subject: Re: [Peterboro] jre installation !!

Thanks again Andy,

My intallation of SuSE 10.1 came from the LXF82 DVD (August 2006 issue).
The package is already installed following the instructions in the link I
sent earlier. I am now stuck at the next stage (
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/manual_install_linux.html#note - Item 3 & 4)
Manual Registraton of Java Plug-in. I have both Konqueror and Firefox
Browsers and would like to register the Plug-in with those browsers.

Eron,

I'm going to hijack the latest issue of Linux Format here (LXF85), as I think this should help you - this is verbatim:

[snip]
Mozilla and Firefox plugins can be installed in one of two places, depending on whether you install as root or a user. System-wide plugins and extensions are stored in /usr/lib/firefox/plugins and /usr/lib/firefox/extensions, respectively. Those installed by a user, which happens when you install directly from a website such as http://plugindoc.mozdev.org or http://addons.mozilla.org, go into the appropriate directory under the user's home directory. This is .mozilla/firefox/xxx.default, where xxx is some random string of characters.
[snip]

Hope this gets you up and running with Java.

Regards,

Andy
