Hi All

I have a need to setup a dedicated box running a MySql server. I will
probably use Debian Sarge.

The server needs to be accessible to a number of Win XP boxes within our
domain (running on a Server 2003 Active Directory setup).

I have setup a MySql server on a test machine (Ubuntu 6.06) which has a
static ip of 192.168.10.222 and a hostname of mysql-server. I can connect to
the server via a console whilst on the Ubuntu box as well as when accessing
the Ubuntu box via ssh.

I am using a specific windows app to access the database however I cannot
get it to connect to the mysql-server at 192.168.10.222 or at mysql-server.
I get some sort of “this machine is not allowed to access that server” kind
of error message.

I was hoping to just put this on our LAN and be able to point the win boxes
at it without too much other configuration. Do I now have mess about with
samba, setting it up as a server that authenticates via the Active
Directory, or is there another simpler way to do this? I have correctly set
/etc/hosts and what have you, but can’t seem to get any further. The server
only has to run one dbase with two tables.

Any suggestions would be useful, the simpler the better as far as I am
concerned.

Stu
