I just came back from the US with an HP Pavillion dv6338se. It is currently
a dual-boot laptop (Vista and Kubuntu). I running Kubuntu AMD64 6.06 LTS
edition (from the DVD) because I received this version instead of the 6.10.
The current issue that I am trying to overcome is getting the dial-up modem
running. The modem hardware appears to be an HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Modem
with SmartCP and has the Conexant manufacturer listed. I have not been able
to get the hardware detected using scanModem via Knoppix. Being foolish, I
also picked up a Sitecom USB modem that uses Conexant. I went to the
Linuxant website and installed their driver, but was unable to get the
HDAUDIO modem (can't be used because kernel is < 2.6.16) and the Sitecom is
not being found by the driver although it can be seen as a USB device.

Does anybody have any ideas on what can be done to get either modem
working? Also, does anyone know where I can pick up a working modem for a
laptop that lacks serial ports?
