When you save the config, it saves it as .config by default (if I
remember correctly - I'm pretty sure that it always looks for this
file).  Just save your configuration once you have everything setup
correctly.  Also, when you copy your new kernel over to the /boot
diretory, copy the .config file over but in the format that follows the
version of the kernel and without the '.'

HI All

I want to add one module to  my existing kernel (tuntap support for
VPN).

I have done:

cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig

and then added the module that I want into the kernel options.

How do I now save the changes and re-write the kernel so that I don't
trash my machine.

I am running Debian Etch on the 2.6.18-4-686 kernel if thats of
relevance.
