Hi all,

I need some advice.

I have a friend who has an old laptop but it doesn't have wireless built in. I've installed Xubuntu to it and it runs nice. He wants to get it wireless but alas I have no knowledge in this area at all so some help would be appreciated.

What can you recommend from personal experience/knowledge?

If the laptop has a PCMCIA slot the easist solution is to plug in a suitable wireless card in here. There are plenty of Linux compatible ones but not all the latest ones will work out of the box. The one I use is a CISCO AIRONET 340 series. It is only 11Mbps but it works without any installation at all on my Dell Inspiron 2650 running Slackware 11. It cost me about £14.
