Ah, well I might try it anyway.

Wine is surprisingly useful when migrating to Linux, and pretty addictive once you get your first couple of successes!

NB: On Windows, PSPad is my preferred free editor. I'll perhaps try than on Wine too.

Under Linux, I use Kate if I need a GUI editor.

I just installed Kate, as I've used it in the past, but it is much slower to start up on my Gnome desktop than gedit is, so I can't see that I'll convert (I don't see a killer reason to swap). UE on Wine would be too, but there are sufficient things that UE can do to justify it. (That and the fact that I bought a lifetime upgrade licence a couple of years back!)
