Guys

That said, I could install the Steam Client onto my Ubuntu v71.0 install
and download the software (Counter Strike, Counter Strike: Source, etc,
etc) and have this running under Wine. I did manage to get this running
under a previous install of Ubuntu so it would be interesting to see if
I can get this working again. However, I would need to do all the work
prior to meeting due to the size of the installation as the software is
downloaded from the internet and will take a while to install. But this
is the first time I have gotten an game to run under Wine instead of
Cedega.

Subject: [Peterboro] Really OT: Gaming event

I hesitated a lot before posting this, but I'm going ahead as several
people have expressed an interest.

My company is holding a gaming event this weekend (www.more-lan.co.uk).
Since we have Steam tournament licences for the weekend that will likely
be the focus, and my personal efforts to get Steam's weird and wonderful
client running under Wine have failed miserably[*] (although others have
had more success). Which means that although there's nothing in
principle excluding Linux users in practise it will be Windows biased.
(For the great unwashed, which includes me, Steam means Counter Strike,
Half Life, Team Fortress, etc.)

If there is any interest, I reckon a Frozen Bubble server could be in
order though :-)

[*] The effort I put into this is limited by the fact that I have very
little interest in playing the games, it was more a technical challenge
and I got bored!
