FYI, here is the Linux router that I mentioned last night:

If that's the one that we want I can get it ordered. Any other suggestions?

What are the criteria we're using to choose one?

For a PC alternative, I started looking at Untangle but the system
requirements are quite high - RAM: 512MB min, 1GB recommended. I think
Smoothwall is probably the best option there, though I don't know how good
the wireless NIC support is.

I think the memory requirement of Untangle is fair given what it tries to do; Smoothwall is very limited by comparison. Memory is currently pretty cheap - what hardware would we be using?

I think that the core router we use should be standalone so that we don't have to spend time each month getting the Internet working because we've experimented with the PC configuration. That is we can (should?) play with Untangle/Smoothwall but that should be a separate project.

The benefit of Smoothwall over a router is in the flexibility is gives with larger networks (creating DMZs etc), and with Untangle is in mail virus scanning etc. None of those are relevant to what we need to *use* at a PLUG meeting, all of them are probably relevant as things we'd like to *learn about* at a meeting.
