I received a .wmv file by email, which I opened straight from the email client (Thunderbird).
Up popped a message warning me that the attachment might not be safe. Then Windows Media Player opened, downloaded some codecs, and played the file. Which is all a little odd when you're on your Linux desktop. (I'd forgotten I'd installed CrossOver Office.)
