In an attempt to give more views as to what might be 'wrong', I shall
throw in my situation.

I've been to one meeting, quite some time ago, it was at Marks
workshop.

Generally I found people welcoming, though inevitably there was
fragmentation of the meeting into groups discussing their own issues.
This is always likely to happen without any structure or leadership
and is not necessarily a bad thing, because not everyone is interested
in the same subject. For example, a structures and planned discussion
among sub-groups could be a great way of covering many subjects.
People need structure in order to arrive prepared.

Without wishing to play to stereotypes, I think as computer
enthusiasts there is a natural shyness, and this doesn't help the
cohesion of the group or the inclusion of new members (both on the
part of the existing and new attendees).

I didn't attend again for the following reasons:

- I live in Bourne so my journey has to feel all the more worthwhile,
which it didn't.
- Most discussion was around consumer Linux (getting my laptop to boot
ubuntu, getting my wireless card to work), whereas my interest is
mainly business/enterprise usage.
- On the whole the meeting didn't seem to offer me much for my time,
effort and cost.
- Further down the line... changes in my working arrangements mean I'm
normally now away on the day the LUG meetings are held.

I hope the above helps in some way for the improvement of the LUG and
to keep it going, as it very clearly exists as a valuable resource to
many regular members.
