Many thanks David. I tried downloading it from DropBox and sure enough, the sound does play all the way through.
It never occurred to me that Dropbox converts files, nor that they get converted back again when downloaded. But it would provide an explanation of what seemed a total mystery. Odd that one file loses its sound and the other doesn't. They're about the same size and length. And odd that it's only sound that's gets affected - with total loss after 18 seconds. Prior to that its perfect. However that would certainly explain it. If anyone can add any other thoughts I'd appreciate them. In the meantime, problem solved. Many thanks David.
