All, I plan to send the following email to Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce but before I do I thought it better to see if the Group was happy with the content. Suggestions for improvement of course will be appreciated. The business part is tricky to get right and I have based my words on LUG information online, especially Wkipedia.
They may just say no but if they accept it may lead to more venue options and I suspect more members too. If any members of the Group are also current members of the Chamber of Commerce then it would be much better coming from them or at least mentioning their name in the text. Here is the text of my message I plan to send. Start of text to CoC: Dear Sir/Madam, I am currently retired but was a member of the Chamber for a short while. I remember there was a weekly Gazette/Newsletter of activities that members may find of interest. I was wondering if it would be possible to include the following entry in your next issue. Please edit it down if you need to. Peterborough Linux User Group ----------------------------- The Linux User Group is a non-profit informal worldwide organisation which aims to support all people with an interest in Linux and related Open Source software. It aims to promote the use of said software through face-to-face meetings by exchanging skills and ideas and broadening the Linux and Open Software user base. The Peterborough Linux User Group is looking to start meetings on a monthly basis on a weekday (tbd) in the evening after work. We were wondering if there are any organisations in Peterborough that would allow us to use their facilities as a meeting venue. The Peterborough branch aims to be a local Linux and Open Source software forum for Peterborough and its environs. There are no membership fees but depending an the location there may be a small charge made to cover any direct costs to the venue. There would be a particular synergy with Data Centres, Software Developers, Systems Integrators and Education Establishments, though in fact any free space would be fine. Table/chairs/mains sockets are the minimum requirement, typical of what you would find in a conference room. The group does not include business sales or transactions as part of its meetings but does aim to help businesses choose the Linux/Open Source route and where we have direct experience we may relate that experience to company representatives attending the meeting. Also, any Linux/Open Source vacancies notified to the group will be passed on to its members. We estimate the number of attendees will start at around 10 and become 15-20 within the first year. If you have a potential venue and would like to support this initiative then please contact Clive Wareing using email address scw...@gmail.com, who will then contact you to discuss the opportunity further. Many thanks in advance for your assistance. End of message to CoC. Best wishes, Clive -- Peterboro mailing list Peterboro@mailman.lug.org.uk https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/peterboro
