Hi Nigel, This night not be caused by burning/USB creation software. In the past I found that if I created bootable USB on a UEFI enabled system it wont boot on BIOS with same kind of error (no image to boot). Same was for the reversed and protected boot could come to play too.
I find rufus working well under Windows, for Linux i us the inbuild disk tool or multiboot.
