Special Session
"From Business Intelligence to Artificial Business Intelligence: new
challenges for Intelligent Systems"
http://www.gsi.dec.usc.es/bi2abi/
to be organized at the
9th International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and
Applications (ISDA 2009)
30 November -- 2 December, 2009, Pisa, Italy

CALL FOR PAPERS
-AIMS AND SCOPE------------
Business Intelligence (BI) usually refers to technologies or
applications that are used in an organization for gathering data,
information and knowledge about its operations aiming to support human
decision makers in the organization by means of reports, indicators and
data charts. Recently, a number AI based approaches and techniques (such
as Knowledge-Based systems, computational intelligence, ontologies,...)
have been described as useful for improving BI systems by adding more
intelligent-oriented capabilities for data analysis, information
acquisition or extraction and knowledge formalisation and discovery.
The aim of the session is to bring together developers, users and
researchers both in the fields of BI and AI in order to discuss on how
BI may evolve into ABI (Artificial Business Intelligence) thus producing
new systems, tools and applications that are enriched with high-level
capabilities like adaption to changing environments, intelligent
management of large volumes of data, self-learning knowledge
representation and reasoning or other ones that help to move BI
applications from its traditional reporting functionalities to the new
and more challenging decision making arena.
--TOPICS OF INTEREST------------
Papers dealing with models, applications or tools in the field of
business information systems, business process management and, in
general, business intelligence where AI techniques play a significant role
A non exhaustive list of the topics of interest follows:
- Knowledge-based business information systems, Intelligent Decission Support
Systems in business
- Predictive, flexible, adaptive AI-based approaches and models for Busines

optimization, manufacturing) and business services (financial services,
marketing, sales Management, human resources management)
- AI-based approaches or systems in: Customer Relationship Management,
Knowledge Management, Quality Management
- And prototypes or demonstrations in any of the below mentioned fields.
Also position papers on the role that AI-based techniques currently play
or will play as the future evolution of BI technologies (challenges,
trends), applications and tools are welcome
--PAPER SUBMISSION, PROCEEDINGS AND SPECIAL ISSUES------------
Prospective authors are invited to submit a tentative title of their
paper and a short description of the contents (max. 200 words) to the
organizers (see below) as soon as possible (by 25 April).
Full papers following the ISDA 2009 author guide (6 single-spaced pages
maximum, 10 pts font size, double-columns IEEE Journal style) should be
submitted via the ISDA 2009 EasyChair associated site. All papers will
be reviewed by at least two reviewers.
The papers accepted for this session will be published in the
proceedings of ISDA 2009 (IEEE Press). Extended versions of selected
papers of the Conference will be published in seven Journal special issues.
