First Call for Papers
SIMEX'2013
September 18-20, 2013
Organized by
The European Technology Institute
Co-Sponsored by
EUROSIS
See: http://www.eurosis.org/cms/?q=taxonomy/term/340
Aim
The aim of SIMEX is to bring simulation as a useful and cost saving
tool closer to the non-simulation community by creating an event which
is aimed at the engineering community at large. We are certain that by
providing this sort of forum to expand hands-on knowledge and use of
computer simulation to a larger audience, the simulation community as
a whole will profit. SIMEX*, will be held every year in September in
Brussels. The reason we chose Brussels, is the fact that Brussels is
the seat of a myriad of international organizations and will thus
provide an opportune window to show your simulation know-how. This
event will be co-organized with a number of other professional
societies, government agencies, international institutions et al.
Keynotes
Why Simulation is Important: An Engineer's Perspective
Chris Koh, Ph.D.
Director, PepsiCo Global R&D Fellow, PepsiCo Advanced Research
PepsiCo, Inc., Plano, USA
An easy-to-learn system for simulation of business problems
Ingolf Stahl

More Invited Talks to follow
The main and only focus of the event will be on simulation tools.
Comparative Overview
With the number of simulation tools on the market it is sometimes
difficult first of all to know which tools are available and secondly
to compare their strengths and weaknesses so you can acquire the right
tool for the job. Therefore this track will concentrate on overviews
of tools presently being used and comparing different tools in
different applications and giving novice and non-users an insight in
the direction they need to go when acquiring a simulation tool to
solve their scientific or engineering problems.
Tools in development
Some tools, especially at universities are still in development and
may or may not result in commercial tools at a later date. This track
is dedicated to inform the simulation community of their existence
and/or progress and to share new ideas in simulation tool development.
Tools created at university or research institutes
As more and more universities are creating tools for their own use and
indirectly business use, this track showcases those tools, be they
dedicated to solve specific problems or multi-facetted ones. All
university tools presented in this track should be fully documented
and supported.
Commercial tools
This track looks at the commercial tools now available on the market.
These can be either topic specific or multi-facetted. These top of the
range modelling tools can solve a myriad of simulation problems in the
most varied of sectors. Presentations here are aimed at covering some
or all of these.
Open Source Tools
With the advent of new powerful simulations scripting languages and
the ubiquitous nature of the web, open source simulation tools have
become a new force in simulation applications, opening the way for
financial less-powerful organizations to harness the strength of these
programs for their own simulation purposes. This track looks at the
possibilities of using open source tools to solve modelling problems.
Conference Venue
The conference will be held at TheHotel in Brussels

PAPER SUBMISSION TYPES
FULL PAPER (5 to 8 pages including abstract, conclusions, diagrams,
references). During review, the submitted full paper can be accepted
as a regular 5 page paper. If excellent, the full paper can be
accepted by the program committee as an extended (8-page) paper.
EXTENDED ABSTRACT (at least five pages)
Participants may also submit a 5 page extended abstract for a regular
(5 pages) or short (3 pages) paper or poster, which will be reviewed
by the International Program Committee.
SHORT ABSTRACT (at least three/four pages)
Participants may also submit a 3-4 page abstract for a short paper or
poster, which will be reviewed by the International Program Committee.
Each submission will be reviewed by at least three members of the
International Program Committee. All accepted papers will be published
in the SIMEX 2013 Conference Proceedings.
ONE PAGE ABSTRACTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS
Send all submissions in an ELECTRONIC FORM ONLY in (zipped or
unzipped) Microsoft Word format or PDF format (PREFERRED FORMAT)
indicating the designated track and type of submission (full paper or
an extended abstract) to EUROSIS ([email protected]).

OUTSTANDING PAPER AWARD
The 2013 SIMEX Conference Committee will select the Outstanding Paper
of the Conference. The author of this paper will be awarded a free
registration for a EUROSIS conference. Only papers SUBMITTED AS FULL
PAPERS will be eligible for the Outstanding Paper Award.
LANGUAGE
The official conference language for all papers and presentations is English.
POSTER SESSION
The poster session only features work in progress. Next to the
actual poster presentation, these submissions also feature as
short papers in the Proceedings.
STUDENTS SESSION
This session is for students, who want to present their work in
progress or part of their doctoral thesis as a paper. Student papers
are denoted by the fact that only the name of the student appears on
