We discussed you removing the --with-64-bit-pointers options
from ./configure and instead documenting that the user selects on a
system by system basis by either selecting the appropriate compiler or
the passing the appropriate compiler options. Is there any reason you
shouldn't make this change?
My understanding is that the current option is not properly
supported and may be next to impossible to truly support automatically?
I expect the usual complaints from the peanut gallery so let's
hear them.
