For sequential runs use -ksp_type preonly -pc_type lu For parallel runs you need to first config/configure.py PETSc to use a parallel direct solver. See http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/petsc/petsc-as/documentation/linearsolvertable.html for the choices.
