You have to remove the defines or rename them to something else in petscconf.h. Just commenting or undefining doesn't work. [this is because our build system does a grep on this file - so its doesn't exactly follow preprocessing directives]
Regarding the original issue - I'm not sure why it doesn't work. We have V1R3M0_460_2008-081112P on our BGP - and I don't remember seeing this issue.
