Thanks Barry for quick reply. After I type ./ex5 -help | grep view, it comes out a list of options related to _view, all of which have the tag <FALSE>, what does this mean?

It depends on PETSc version number. When using the graphics want you generally want a -draw_pause -1 to stop that program at the graphic otherwise it pops up and disappears immediately.
