My understanding is that stabilization by pressure weighted
interpolation in FVM is in essence a fourth order pressure
derivative with proper scaling. But in FVM it is usually
implemented in defect correction form: only part of the
stabilization is in the A11 block of the coupled matrix, the rest
is in de rhs vector. This makes the coupled system diagonally
dominant and solvable by AMG. Early work was done at Waterloo in
the late eighties and early nineties, see
