^^ is that it? i know that after my -current was past that point, i had to make some changes in pf.conf with respect to the tun0 ( i had been using it in a macro, and it complained. )

Jared's hint went into the right direction, the solution was

# touch /etc/hostname.tun0

tun0 isn't created, yet, when pf.conf gets loaded ... it appears that it didn't really bother pf with the important stuff, just "set loginterface tun0" was affected.

Creating an empty hostname.tun0 takes care of "ifconfig tun0 create" during boot.

I'm still having another problem that just came back to mind, but I'll write that in another mail.
