sigh
this did not work. i added static-port option at which point the natcheck utility said
RESULTS:
Address translation: Basic NAT (IP address only)
Consistent translation: YES (GOOD for peer-to-peer)
Unsolicited messages filtered: YES (GOOD for security)

however, i was not able to get ichat audio or video sessions up and running.

here is what connection doctor said.

2004-05-03 13:13:16 -0400: xxxxx did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
64.107.216.xxx:17429, 192.168.1.202:5060

i have removed the name of the person and part of the ip addresses from here, but apart from that it is a simple cut and paste. from the connection doctor window in ichat av. when looking at the document mentioned in my previous email at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 i did not see any mention of port 17429, also my pf policy is to allow all outgoing packets so, i should not have a prolem with that being blocked.

ichat av says "username did not respone" in the invitation window.

thanks again
ali

the interesting stuff is that port 17429

my knowledge of the subtleties of nat and packet filtering is far from extensive. is it possible to get consistent translation with pf?

Adding the static-port option to your nat rule(s) should do it.
