O'Reilly Website IS NOT PBCGI60.EXE. They are two different things. The first is just a web-server program, like Sybase Personal Webserver, MS-Personal Webserver (which comes free with NT etc) Their bigger brothers in the market are MS-IIS, Netscape Enterprise Server and so on. PBCGI60.EXE is the CGI program that helps run Web.PB applications. It IS WEB.PB, which is the client portion of your 3-tier web.pb application. Remember in Distributed PB Application, you have to have a front-end tier which connects to the application server using a connection object ? PBCGI060.EXE (Web.PB) does its equivalent in a Web.PB application. By looking up your webpb.ini file, web.pb crreates a small client program and connects to your app. server by using the parameters in the pbweb.ini file. Then it executes the uo_xxx's function and returns the string to the web server, which in turns returns to the web browser. Thus the website s/w from O'Reilley and PBCGI60.exe are 2 totally different things. Ofcourse now Web.PB concepts have become obsolete. Sybase itself has made these obsolete by introducing the Enterprise Application Server. Donot hate Sybase for doing that. Web.PB is not sufficient enough to handle the traffic load to a typical web-application. So EAServer does that and much more!
